Custom Website or Website Builder? How to Decide
By FenvoraTech Team ·
Website builders and custom development solve different problems. Choosing well starts with being honest about what you need.
When a website builder is a good fit
- You need a simple site quickly: a few pages, contact details, maybe a small gallery.
- Your team will edit it themselves and wants a visual editor.
- You do not need unusual features or integrations.
Builders are fast to start and inexpensive to maintain. Limits show up later, in design flexibility, performance control and moving your content elsewhere.
When custom development is a better fit
- You need logins, dashboards, bookings, custom pricing or other business logic.
- You must connect to other systems such as payment gateways, CRMs or inventory.
- Search visibility matters and you want control over page speed, URLs and structured data.
- You expect the site to grow into a larger application.
Questions to ask yourself
- What must a visitor be able to do on this site?
- Who will update it, and how often?
- What happens if we outgrow the platform?
- What are the ongoing costs, not just the first-year cost?
- Who is responsible for security updates?
A middle path
Some projects start with a simple site and move to custom development once the requirements are clear. If you plan that route, keep your content in a portable format and use your own domain.
Not sure which applies? Describe what you need and we will give you an honest recommendation, including when a builder is enough.
